Goodbye, USA

A Look Back ~ and Forward

Time is always surprising; It seems like just yesterday, not nearly 27 years ago, that I first locked eyes with Jim, in Ken’s living room. Jim, full-bearded and scruffy, just off the boat from Alaska. Myself, fully focused on going to … Continue reading →

Revival at the Beach

The forecast said 50-70% chance of rain. Perhaps high winds. It didn’t matter. We were going to the beach. Some are drawn to the vast, dramatic vistas of the desert. Some feel more attuned to lush mountains. While we love … Continue reading →

Taking a Walk on the Wild Side

We spend a lot of time exploring Oregon’s many state parks. A LOT. So we were beyond thrilled to finally make our way to experience Cottonwood Canyon, Oregon’s newest state park, and check it out for ourselves. Opened in 2014, … Continue reading →

The Joy of a Mini~Adventure

We have, quite simply, been really busy lately. Busy at work, busy at the house, busy with friends. Simply busy. While this keeps us, somewhat, out of trouble, it also means we have been able to indulge less often than … Continue reading →

Back to the Beach….and Mexico!

The waves sloshed onto the shore, as the sun warmed us. Having walked a couple of miles from camp down the beach, we stopped for a rest on a downed log, luxuriating in the absolute solitude. Not another soul disturbed … Continue reading →

Finally—Heading south like we’re supposed to!

When people enquire as to what we are doing as we aimlessly drive around the Americas we tend to respond with: ‘We’re driving from Alaska to Argentina’. Those in the know often respond with ‘Oh, so you are driving the PanAmerican Highway then?” To which we typically respond with a shifty sideways glance and say […]

Crater Lake National Park

The deepest, and perhaps bluest, lake in the United States is a brilliant sapphire in a dry mountain. We look down from the rocky edge where enormous pines have taken root, and Crater Lake shimmers in its caldera of pumice stone. … Continue reading →

A Year in Pictures ~ 2014 Remembered

Rather than write a long narrative on the year that was, I wanted to simply look back on the photos. Reminisce on the thousands of memories, and countless adventures that emerged on this past trip around the sun. In no … Continue reading →

Cannon Beach – Quintessential Oregon

Fringed by grassy dunes, windblown trees, and ocean, Cannon Beach is one of the quintessential Oregon Coast towns. It’s packed with B&Bs, Inns, verdant flowers, and sun bleached cedar cottages. On our trip down the Pacific Coast Highway, Cannon Beach … Continue reading →

West Coast

Over this past year, Jesse and I have been taking time to explore North America. This continent has incredible natural beauty that we take for granted, often flying off to other countries across the globe while there’s amazing stuff so … Continue reading →

Tires (Tyres)

Who doesn’t like a new pair, or four, of shoes? We have been needing new tires for a while and had been holding on for the lower USA to buy them. We have had several punctures, destroyed a tyre driving on it flat, replaced that with a second-hand tire, and ended up with three different types of […]

No time to burn

After a couple of months travelling with no set deadlines it was a bit of a shock to suddenly have to be at a certain place at a certain time.  Fortunately that place and that time was Burning Man 2014, so it wasn’t like we were rushing to the dentist’s office or anything unpleasant. The […]

A Chance for Gratitude

“Oh crap, she did it again!” Jim hastily rolled down the windows for a refreshing breath of fresh air, intent on dissipating the overwhelming scent of Aspens seemingly never ending gaseous emissions from the back seat. Our little family was … Continue reading →

The Scenic Route ~ Highway 395 Southward bound

On our road trip to Overland Expo in May, we were fortunate enough (smart enough?) to take the road less traveled, i.e, scenic Hwy 395. This, mostly two lane, highway runs from the Canadian Border in Washington, through Oregon, and as … Continue reading →

All I Need

The rain pounded on the roof, wind gusts of over 60mph causing the camper to sway. A slight whistle sounded through the vent, even as our collective breathing fogged the windows. Pacific NW camping during a storm. An excellent idea! … Continue reading →
